Providing a Next-Generation Solution: The College of Education at the University of South Carolina Utilizes CWPro to Benefit Administrators, Faculty and Students.
University of South Carolina College of Education Advances Assessment and Accreditation Performance with Chalk & Wire –
New Assessment System Facilitates Data Collection and Insights and Supports Students’ Matriculation for Education Licensure Programs
The University of South Carolina College of Education is advancing its assessment and accreditation performance through the use of Chalk & Wire’s flagship ePortfolio-enabled student assessment platform, CWPro. Examining its internal assessment capabilities for an upcoming accreditation, the public co-educational research University located in Columbia required a next-generation assessment solution that could disaggregate data at the unit, program and cohort level of student performance and then link directly to outcomes.
“Based on an internal audit, it became crystal clear that we needed a data-driven view of students’ performance to support evidence of achievement to make informed decisions and necessary changes for improvement,” said Regina Wragg, Director of Office of Assessment and Accreditation, College of Education, University of South Carolina. “Our campus’ faculty, staff, students and administration all benefit from the Chalk & Wire system integration. The positive impacts of the solution have been multi-faceted. From an accreditation standpoint, the implementation of Chalk & Wire helped facilitate a smooth CAEP accreditation visit and State Report for our College of Education.”
Through CWPro and its assessment analytics and reporting capabilities, the institution can easily calculate inter-rater reliability scores and
make data-informed decisions based on valid, reliable measures as pertinent to Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) accreditation. In addition, it offers students a platform to create and maintain ePortfolios that can serve as valuable job-hunting and career resources.
Students can now submit key assessments from their course-based experiences into the learning assessment system, as well as add evidence to the Teacher Education Profile. The Teacher Education Profile is an electronic portfolio in which candidates securely submit pertinent documentation and participate in key matriculation milestones throughout their licensure programs.
