TOC Page- Assign Rubric

In order to assess submitted work, you have to tell ePortfolio which rubric will be used to assess this work. This is done in ePortfolio by linking a rubric to the relevant section of the Table of Contents (TOC) that the student has used when creating their portfolio.

1. On the TOC Page, click on the Edit link beside any TOC name:

This will take you to a screen like the one below:

2. Whether you want to assign a rubric to a new section that hasn't yet been entered, or change an existing section, the procedure is similar; the main difference being that you either click Add Section, or the pencil Edit icon next to a section.

a) To create a new section click the Add Section link. You will now have to enter a brief title for the section, an optional description to elaborate on the title where necessary, and choose the rubric for assessment (see below).

b) If, however, you are changing a rubric on an existing section, you will see a screen like the one below. Whilst editing a section, it is possible to have more than one rubric. This would be useful, for example, if you wanted one rubric for each artifact in the section, or if you assessed an artifact at different times of the year using a different rubric each time. By putting a check mark in the box below the rubric for assessment and clicking OK, you are then given the opportunity to include as many rubrics as are available.

When you are editing a section, some options become fixed such as the Name item in the example below. This is due to the fact the table of contents has already been published in ePortfolio, and changing it here would stop those users from accessing already-created material.

Another consideration is the effect of changing an assigned rubric on work that has not yet been submitted, or is pending assessment. When a rubric link has been changed, it will only be used for assessing students work that has been submitted after the change- work submitted prior to the changed link will not be re-assessed automatically. If the new rubric is needed for work that hasn't yet been assessed, the students should re-submit the work.
