Newsflashes Page

Newsflashes give people information on anything that you want to draw their attention to. This will usually be new events, approaching deadlines and other things that are about to happen. They are managed from the Newsflashes Page:

A newsflash can also be targetted at a single user type- for example, a message can be sent only to students, only to assessors, or to everyone.

Actions available on each newsflash are:

  • Release - Once a flash has been written, you need to release it so that people can see it as they login (see below).
  • Delete - If a flash hasn't been released, you can delete it from the list.
  • Edit - Change a flash that hasn't been released yet.
  • Withdraw - Gives you a preview of how the newsletter will look, then lets you sent to to the recipient that have opted in to receiving this service.
  • View - See the full information for this newsletter, including who will see it and any links attached to it.

The Newsflash Lifecycle

Newsflashes are created and then sit in the pending list until they are released. People will only see what you have written when you release a newsflash- and you can only delete one for good after you have withdrawn it from view.

You will go through these stages with your newsflashes:

  1. Write a newsflash (adding a file as a link, if necessary)
  2. Release it so that your users can see it when they log in.
  3. Withdraw it when it is no longer relevant.
  4. Delete it if you're not going to need it again (or simply just withdraw it from view and keep it until you need it again- perhaps next year- and then release it again)

Viewing Newsflashes

Newsflashes appear to people on the Services page just after they have entered their user name and password, and before they enter ePortfolio.

In the example highlighted below, the Newsflash appears under the heading "ePortfolio Artifact File Workshop". Multiple newsflashes will be stacked on top of each other in the order that they were released in.
