Newsflash Page: Releasing & Withdrawing Newsflashes

Once a newsflash has been written, it is added to the list you see on the Newsflash Page. It will only be visible to your users when it is released, and becomes invisible again when it's withdrawn.

Releasing a Newsflash

When you have added new flashes, they will remain invisible to people until you release them. This lets you:

  • Write a newsflash prior to the date people should see it.
  • Reuse an old newsflash that you have previously withdrawn for an event that occurs regularly.
  • Check the content and edit it if necessary.

To make newsflashes visible to people as they login, click Release in the actions column (see below). If this action isn't available, then the flash is already visible to people, and the date in the Released column will tell you the date this newsflash first became public.

Viewing Flashes

If a URL or file has been included for further information, it would appear like the one below when anyone logs into the Services page (ie. after entering their username and password and before going into ePortfolio):

As there is already an active newsflash that hasn't been withdrawn, the latest newsflash is stacked underneath a previous one.

Withdrawing Newsflashes

If you can't see an older newsflash in the list, then it is probably temporarily hidden from view to stop old items cluttering up the screen. Newsflashes that you have withdrawn are, by default, not displayed. To see them, click the Include withdrawn flashes link, as shown below:

Deleting - Only when a newsflash has been withdrawn can you delete it. You may, however, want to just remove the newsflash from people's screens rather than delete it. That way you can simply withdraw it, and release again whenever the note becomes relevant again.
