Newsflash Page: Add Newsflash
Newsflashes are a way of contacting a lot of people quickly with topical information. They can also have a link after it if you need to provide further resources. The link can point to either a website or a file that you have uploaded, such as a word document.
You can add a new newsflash from the Newsflashes page by clicking the Add Newsflash link (see below):

This takes you to the screen below, where you can enter a brief text message and link to further information:

The Add Newsflash components are as follows:
- Headline: Like the subject line of an email, this should be short but descriptive.
- Article: The main text that you are drawing peoples attention to. If you need to put a lot of information in, put a summary in here and put the full text in as a URL or file link. It is best to use avoid HTML and use plain text. If you do use HTML, do not use the following tags: <HTML> <BODY> <TABLE> <TD> <TH>.
- URL: The address of the web page you want to include as a link, such as http://www.chalkandwire.com/eportfolio/. If you put a URL in, do not check the Upload a file box.
- Upload a file: Use this if you want the newsflash link to open more information in a file that you have uploaded. This file can be one of a number of types, such as Word or Adobe Acrobat, but is not secure and can be seen by anyone that knows the URL.When uploading a file, leave the URL box clear- the uploading process will start after you click OK.
- Service: The service that the text will appear next to. See the example in Viewing Flashes, below.
- Privilege Levels: Who will see the newsflash. Options include, but are not limited to, student, assessor and administrator. This gives you a chance to send a message to certain groups, such as only to students, only to assessors, or to everyone.
Releasing a Newsflash
When you have added new flashes, they will remain invisible to people until you release them. This lets you:
- Write a newsflash prior to the date people should see it.
- Reuse an old newsflash that you have previously withdrawn for an event that occurs regularly.
- Check the content and edit it if necessary.
To make newsflashes visible to people as they login, click Release in the actions column (see below). If this action isn't available, then the flash is already visible to people, and the date in the Released column will tell you the date this newsflash first became public.
