My Assessment Page: Assess a Submission

To make a new assessment, or to reassess work, click on the student’s name either in the Advisors Group, or the Work Submitted to You sections in My Assessments Tab. This gives you a summary of results for that student that may look like the following, depending on which section of My Assessments tab the students name was listed under:

The actions available for each assignment will vary depending on whether the students name you clicked was listed in the Advisor Group, Incomplete Assessments, Work for Assessment, or Previously Assessed sections. These are the possibilities:

Actions for each result:

The Assessment Process

1. Click the Assess or Re-assess icon to start the assessment, which starts at this screen (see below). From here, you can verify both the submission, and the rubric you will be using to assess it.

2. The screen is divided up into two sections, the upper one allowing you to assess the work shown in the lower one. By clicking and dragging the dividing line, you can move it up and down in order to see more of a particular section.

3. Clicking Go Ahead will take you to the next screen (shown below) where you can enter an appropriate level of attainment:

4. Work through the screen above by using the following processes:

  1. Use the links in the portfolio section at the bottom of the screen to find the article that is to be evaluated.
  2. Choose the most appropriate level for each criterion in the rubric by clicking next to the green text in the top section.
  3. Add any comments that you feel would be helpful for providing the student with feedback.
  4. Click Next underneath the comments section to continue to either the next criterion or the end of the assessment. The “Back” link gives you the opportunity to return to previously assessed criteria and make changes.

5. After all the criteria have been scored, you are shown an average score for the criteria you have just worked through. This number is not a grade; it is representative of the mean level of competency that you decided the student had obtained. You can convert it into a numerical or letter-based grade if that is necessary for other records.

You are then given a choice of what you want to do next:

The choices on the screen above let you:

  • Go straight to the next piece of work that this student has submitted for assessment (this is the default option).
  • See which submissions are outstanding for this particular student, and choose one to see next.
  • Start scoring the next student’s work on this particular assignment.
  • See all the submissions made by various students for this assignment.
  • Return to the My Assessments tab and stop scoring work.

If you choose the last option, you are then taken back to the My Assessments tab, to see a summary of the status of student’s assessments.
