CWReporter 3.0 - Downloading & Installing

Step 1: To install the desktop reporting tool, first download the full version of CWReporter.

Step 2: Next, you will need to install ‘SQL Server Express 2005’ so that you will have access to the database server. You will only need to do this once. Do this:

  • 1. On your computer Start menu go to ‘Program Files’ > ‘Chalk & Wire’ > ‘Reporter3’ and find the ‘SQL Express Install’ application file.
  • 2. Double click it and click ‘Install’ in the application dialog box. The installation may take several minutes.
  • 3. Once the installation is complete, you will be able to use the CWReporter 3.0 application.

Step 3: At this point, you can run the update (lite version).

Please note that if you install an update (a version that has the word 'lite' in the URL) BEFORE you have installed the SQL Express Install application, you will be unable to install the SQL Express, because the SQL Express Install application will no longer be available in the Reporter 3 folder on your hardrive.

If you get an error while trying to run CWR3.0 that says the application cannot connect to the database, this means that the ‘SQL Server Express 2005’ is not installed on your computer. You will need to uninstall the CWReporter full version and begin the installation again from Step 1.

Note: the Installation will not work if setup.exe is run from a removable drive.

You should make sure that it is installed on a secure computer that only you can access, as you don't need to enter your password to see data that has already been downloaded.

The minimum system requirements for the Desktop Reporting Tool are a Windows PC with:

  • Windows 98SE or higher

If you have previously logged in, a cache of data will have been created for you to run reports from. You can choose whether to use it or create a fresh one by downloading updates from the server:
  • Download updates from server- Checks online ePortfolio assessment data, and downloads this to the hard drive of your computer. You must be connected to the internet for the program to check your username and password.
  • Use local data without downloading- Uses the data that you have already downloaded. The program stays offline in this mode, so and internet connection and logging in are not necessary.

Enter your Chalk & Wire username and password- you must have administrator or subadministrator privileges to run reports.
